Your children might enjoy making boxes by flapping in the sides and taping them. They might also like wrapping unbreakable items, like books.

Your children might be able to label your boxes to include the name of the room, contents description, priority boxes, fragile or handle with care, and car boxes.

Books boxes are small and compact, making them simple to lift and move especially because they are heavy.  Because of the durability of book boxes, you need not worry about breakage at the seams of the boxes.

The key to packing books is to pack as many as possible in each book box. Pairing up equal sized books can help you to maximize your space. You can pack them by laying them flat in the box or standing them up with the open side facing a wall or the floor of the box.

Labeling Boxes for Your Move

Organization is key for a smooth move. Proper labeling saves you time and headaches on the day of your move. Our San Diego movers know that proper labeling puts ease into your move, while reducing the risk that the contents in your boxes will be damaged or placed in the wrong room. Managing your boxes properly is vital for a successful move and labeling supports that objective tenfold. 

You may think we’re only relating to fragile boxes, but we’re relating to all of your boxes so it can be a simple open and unpack every box in every room of your new home. So, let’s focus on the simplicity of labeling when compared to not labeling and fumbling around for your possessions when you get to your new home.      

To start, purchase large colored markers so you can use a different color for each room and a special color for fragile or valuable items. Then, identify each box with the following information on the top of the box. Also, mark the room and specially mark fragile on two sides of each box.  You can also place arrows to demonstrate the upright position of fragile or valuable boxes.

Planning for the Total Cost of Your Move

So, we’d like to offer a quick overview of the costs you can expect so you can best plan and not let your moving costs get out of control.   

Electricity and Gas Utility

If it’s a first time move and you have not established credit, you may be required put a deposit down for your services. Alternatively, there is usually at least a connection fee to initiate service.

Cable, Internet and Phone

There are typically very attractive packages available for cable, Internet and land line phone service. These companies usually have a connection fee as well. In some cases, a  deposit is required to commence services.

New Furnishings and Accessories

It may be necessary for you to purchase new items to replace old furnishings that won’t work in your new home.  Often, you’ll need to purchase new curtain rods and/or curtains to fit your new windows. You may wish to buy new bathroom rugs, towels and shower curtain to start fresh in your new home.   You may wish to discard difficult to move plants at your old home and it’s easy to fill in a new home with new plants.   You may need to add more lighting in your new home.

Groceries

To get back to a well-stocked pantry, you’ll probably do some extra shopping after you arrive at your new home. Canned foods, refrigerated condiments, and snacks may be top priorities on your first shopping list at your new home.  

Household Goods

Add to your shopping list cleaning supplies, light bulbs, waste baskets, and storage containers, your first time shopping extravaganza may be $300.00 or more just for the basics.

Car Costs

You’ll want to determine if you’ll need to pay for parking at home or at work. You’ll also want to plan for car registration and licensing if you moved out of state.
