Q. What is double driving time?

The most common question, many consumers get confused about “double drive time”.  It is established to protect the consumer in California, although the name they gave it implies that you are being charged twice for the same thing.  Here in California, the California Public Utilities Commission (PUC) requires that all moving companies charge “double drive time” on hourly rated moves.

Double drive time actually saves you money and also protects you from unscrupulous movers that might charge “portal to portal”.  In essence, double drive time means you don’t get charged for the time it takes to get to your home from our warehouse, or in other words the drive to your origin.

Furthermore, we don’t charge you for the time it takes to return to the warehouse.  Instead, the time it takes to get from your origin (starting point – where you are moving from) to your destination (ending point – where you are moving to) is logged, and then doubled.  This is supposed to represent the total of the drive time involved in your move.
The reason the PUC does it in this way, is because you can actually calculate the amount of time it takes to get from your origin to your destination. It is too difficult to predict how long it takes to get to your origin from the warehouse, or to get to the warehouse from your destination; therefore movers are not allowed to use this assumption.  Instead, the law states that one pay’s twice for the time in the “middle” to represent the total drive time involved with your move.
Q. Do I need to be present during the move?

No, however you will need to sign the contract before move starts, or if you are in a different city/state you can sign the contract and fax it to us along with your driver license.

Q. What are additional charges that may apply?

Boxes and packing materials are an additional cost; however if you box all items and you are ready on the day of the move, you will not be charged for materials.
We also offer mattress covers, TV crates, piano crates, and glass crates. These crates optional for a local move, but are a must for long distance moves or any type of moves that are going to be in storage.

Stairs/elevator/long carry charge may apply only on long distance moves, please ask your consultant for more information.

Q. How do I move a special furniture item such as a spa, piano, or a grandfather clock?

To prep a grandfather clock, the weights need to be removed, in addition the pendulum needs to be unhooked, wrapped, and lastly the inside of the clock needs to be stuffed with packing paper to prevent shaking.
Moving a piano and/or a SPA, requires special attention, please speak to your moving consultant about piano moving.
