What are Advance Charges?
Advanced charges is a term used to describe third party fees that you may incur to move your items by a moving company. Such charges would appear on your Bill of Lading (receipt).
What are Accessorial Services?
Accessorial Services include services performed by the originating and/or destination agent, such as packing services and long carry.
Who is an Agent?
An agent is a company is authorized to represent the interests of a national moving company.
What is a Bill Of Lading?
A Bill of Lading is a binding contract between the individual(s) who is moving or shipper and the moving company. This contract outlines the terms and conditions for completion of the work by the moving company. The Bill Of Lading also acts as a receipt for purchased moving services.
What is a Binding Estimate?
A binding estimate is a term used to describe a mover’s price quote following a visual inspection of the items you plan to move. This is a flat fee price quote which guarantees the cost for the move regardless of the number of hours that it takes to complete the project. One Stop Moving and Storage offers both phone (non-binding) and visual inspection (binding) estimates.
Who is the Carrier?
The carrier, also known as the originating agent, is the name of the moving company that is coordinating the relocation of your goods. In long distance moves, there may be another company called a destination agent that is responsible for the delivery of your goods.
What is a Certified Scale?
A certified scale is one that is certified by a licensing authority.
What is Climate Controlled Storage?
Climate Control Storage is a term used to describe a storage unit that has temperature and humidity controls.
What Does C.O.D. mean?
C.O.D. stands for Cash On Delivery. It is common for a moving company to require that you pay cash to the drivers upon delivery of your items. Some moving companies accept payment by credit card or check.
What does Cost of Move mean?
This term is used to describe fees that are estimated based on the visual inspection of your items, including: the estimate for stairs, railings, as well as distance to and from the truck. Cost of Move does not include extra charges, such as insurance.
What does Crating Services mean?
Crating services refers to any service that is provided to safely and securely transport large items and breakable items, such as glass table tops and mirrors. One Stop Moving and Storage provides crating services to give our customers peace of mind.
What is a Destination Agent?
This is the moving company that coordinates the delivery of goods for long distance moves.
What does Expedited Service mean?
Expedited service is a term used to describe a guaranteed delivery date of your items in exchange for a higher cost. This term is more commonly used for long distance moves.
What does Flight Charge mean?
Flight charge refers to a term for a moving company to describe additional costs associated with moving items up or down stairs.
What is a Full Service Mover?
A full service mover will remove all designated items from one location and deliver them to the new location. This may include: price estimates, inventory, protective packing of high risk items, loading and unloading, as well as placing boxes and furnishings in the appropriate room at the new address. This may also include disassembly and assembly of furnishings and complete packing services to safely wrap and package all of your goods with high quality materials to allow for enhanced security.
What is Gross Weight?
Gross weight is the weight of the moving truck and your goods.
What types of Insurance is available for my move?
Generally speaking, there is a Valuation Insurance Policy available to insure your goods. There are several types of plans available, but Full Replacement Value is the most comprehensive. This type of insurance policy insures all of your goods for the full value of the goods. In other words, if your goods are damaged the insurance company will rectify the situation in one of three ways: 1) you would receive the amount that it would cost to replace the item, not a prorated amount based on the current value of your used goods. 2) the item would be repaired 3) you would receive money to repair the item yourself.
There are also other plans available, such as the Alternative Level of Liability. This type of plan limits the liability (value not to exceed x amount of dollars per pound, as outlined in the plan) unless otherwise stated in the policy for specific items, such as expensive mirrors and rugs.
What is Impracticable Operations?
Impracticable operations consist of services that involve the use special apparatus to pick up or deliver items that cannot otherwise be moved. These services may warrant an additional fee by the moving company.
What does Inventory mean?
An inventory is a complete list of each item that you are moving, including a description and the condition of each item. Some moving companies offer Inventory Services.
What is the difference between an Intrastate Move and an Interstate Move?
An Intrastate move refers to any move that occurs within the same state. Local moving refers to moves that are up to 40 miles or as much as 100 miles from the originating destination. An Interstate move refers to any move that crosses state boundaries.
What type of Licensing is required for movers?
There are several types of certifications that movers may obtain to transport household goods, locally or long distance. Each mover has a unique set of licensing numbers which signify certification and insurance coverage status. Certain states may require additional licenses for specific types of moves.
What are Line Haul Charges?
Line haul charges consist of the calculation for fees based on the mileage and the weight of your inventory. These fees may be separate from other fees, including Additional Charges on the Bill of Lading.
What is a Long Carry Charge?
A long carry charge is an additional fee that applies to moves whereby the movers must carry goods to a distant location in order to place them in the truck or in the new location.
What is a Non-Binding Estimate?
A non-binding estimate refers to a calculation of the expense for your move based on information you provide to the moving company over the phone. This means that every effort is made to provide an accurate price, but fees may change upon visual inspection. A non-binding estimate can be confirmed by a visual inspection, if and when necessary, through One Stop Moving and Storage.
What is an Order for Service?
An Order for Service is a document that permits the movers to pick up, haul and deliver your goods.
What does PBO mean?
POB stands for Packed By Owner. This refers to all items that are packed by the owner of the goods.
What are Packing Services?
Packing services allow for all of your goods to be packed and unpacked by the moving company. Packing services by One Stop Moving and Storage take the hardship out of moving, while providing comfort that your items are packed properly and placed appropriately for optimal security.
What does Reasonable Dispatch mean?
This term refers to the condition that the moving company must exercise reasonable care to deliver your goods, as promised in the Bill of Lading.
What are your Rights and Responsibilities as an individual(s) who hires a moving company?
The Federal Highway Administration has developed a list of rights and responsibilities for people who are moving. This list is available at One Stop Moving and Storage.
What does Storage In Transit mean?
Storage in Transit, also known as S.I.T.,. refers to the temporary storage of your household goods in a warehouse of the carrier or agent. This may occur in long distance moves and those in which you wish to have your items stored until a later delivery date.
What does Tariff mean?
A tariff refers to the written rules, regulations and price list that must be provided by the moving company to the individual(s) who is moving.
