Moving Insurance
Now that you’re about to move you may be wondering if you need moving insurance. The answer to this question is, ‘yes’! Let’s take a moment and think about this. All of your worldly possessions have just been loaded into a moving truck. They are now in route to your new home. Chances are you’re not sitting in that moving van with all of your belongings sipping on a cappuccino. Any smart homeowner knows that just as he needs to have health insurance to safeguard his personal health, he would also benefit from acquiring moving insurance. Accidents happen even to the most reliable and careful moving companies. Here at One Stop Moving and Storage we know that life’s circumstances can interfere at any given moment.
Did you know that all moving companies are required by federal regulations to offer two types of insurance coverage to customers who wish to move out-of-state? You can acquire a “released value protection” plan or a “full -value replacement protection” plan. The basic “released value “protection plan is a standard free service that is covered in your moving agreement. What is covered under this plan? This plan is set at 60 cents a pound. This means that you will be reimbursed for any items lost or damaged at 60 cents a pound. This includes any items from safety pins, to family heirlooms. For most of us, our possessions are worth far more than a mere 60 cents a pound. That is why we offer another type of moving insurance plan-the full-value replacement protection plan. We recommend this plan if you are moving out-of-state. This coverage is based on the total value of your belongings being transported. When choosing a moving company it is important that they offer reliable moving insurance.
A reliable insurance plan should cover all damages, missing items packed by the moving company, or man-made catastrophes that could arise. Look for an “all risk” policy. This means that the policy should insure your shipment for its full replacement value. Your belongings should be protected from the moment they leave your home until they reach the final destination.
