What it costs

How much does an office move cost in San Diego?

Office moves are billed at our crew hourly rates: $139 an hour for two movers and a truck, $189 for three, $239 for four, $289 for five and $339 for six. The rate is the same every day, weekends included. Billing runs in 15-minute increments.

Every local office move gets a written Not-to-Exceed price before move day. It’s the most you pay for the job as described. Bigger offices get more movers, more trucks or a second day. The estimate shows all of it.

Fuel, drive time and any extra truck are the only add-ons. There are no stair fees and no weekend surcharge.

Do the math

What does a small office move cost, line by line?

A sample 15-desk suite moving across Sorrento Valley with four movers, two trucks, 7 hours on the job and a 20-minute drive comes to $2,132.33. That’s $1,673 of labor, $159.33 for the drive billed at double time, $250 for the second truck and the $50 fuel minimum.

Bigger crews cost less per mover-hour. Two movers cost $69.50 per mover-hour, three $63.00, four $59.75, five $57.80 and six $56.50. On an office with long hallways, elevators and a dock, a larger crew usually finishes in fewer billed hours.

The table shows what each crew costs for 4 hours and for a full 8-hour day, so you can compare a one-day weekend move with a phased one.

Building rules

Do you handle COIs, freight elevators and loading docks?

Yes. We send your property managers a certificate of insurance (COI) naming both buildings, then book the freight elevator and dock around their rules. We carry $1M general liability and $1M workers’ comp. Send each building’s COI requirements when you book.

Most San Diego office buildings, from downtown towers to the UTC and Sorrento Mesa parks, set move hours, require elevator and floor protection and want the COI days ahead. Ask both property managers for their move rules at least 7 days before the move.

Our only office is in Sorrento Valley (6260 Marindustry Dr), so the North City business parks are a short drive for our crews.

What buildings usually ask for

COIA certificate naming the building and its management company as additional insured, at the limits they set.
ElevatorA freight elevator booked for a set window, with pads on the walls.
DockA dock or loading-zone time slot. Street parking downtown is tight, so ask about a loading zone.
Move hoursMany buildings allow moves only on evenings or weekends. Our weekend rate is the same as weekdays.
ProtectionFloor runners and door-frame protection. Both are included at $0.

Furniture and install

Do you move and install office furniture (FF&E)?

Yes. Crews take apart, move and put back together workstations, desks, conference tables, files and casegoods. They can also receive, stage and assemble new furniture. Assembly and install time is billed at the same crew hourly rate as the move and is part of your written estimate.

Workstations and benching

Panels, worksurfaces and pedestals taken apart, labeled, moved and rebuilt to the new floor plan.

New furniture install

Receiving, staging, assembly and leveling of new desks, chairs and benching, with the cartons and packing taken away.

Conference rooms and casegoods

Large tables, credenzas and storage cabinets wrapped in blankets and shrink wrap, then placed where the plan says.

Label to a floor plan

Every desk, chair, box and monitor gets a code that matches a spot on the new plan, so nobody decides placement on the day.

Files and cabinets

File cabinets and records moved in sealed cartons labeled by department. Boxes are $5 to $7 each, and 50 come free.

Packing services

Punch list

A walk-through with your office manager before the crew leaves, so missing parts and wrong rooms get fixed that day.

IT and records

How do you move computers, servers and files?

Computers, monitors, printers and peripherals are disconnected, wrapped, labeled by user and set up at the new desk. Servers and network gear move after your IT team shuts them down, in the order your IT lead sets. Files travel in sealed cartons labeled by department.

Agree the shutdown and start-up order with your IT lead before move day. Servers come up first, workstations follow.

Basic protection pays 60 cents per pound per article, as California’s tariff sets it (Item 136). That covers a 25-lb monitor for $15. Check your commercial property policy for equipment in transit.

Keep working

Can you move our office on a weekend?

Yes. Crews work 7 days a week, 7 AM to 7 PM, and the hourly rate is the same every day, weekends included. Many offices move on Saturday and Sunday, so staff leave on Friday and sit at their new desks on Monday. Need hours outside that window? Ask, and we quote it in writing.

A big office can also move in phases. Teams that can pause go first. Revenue-critical staff keep working until their new desks are ready.

Space not ready?

Where can we store office furniture during a build-out?

In a storage unit or a climate-controlled vault at our Sorrento Valley facility, or in a portable container at your site. San Diego County units run $245 to $730 a month. A Standard container on your property is $99 a month. Short-term storage during a move is included.

A container parked on a City of San Diego street needs a Traffic Control Permit: up to 7 days, $87.68 a week plus an $87.68 processing fee (City of San Diego IB 718). On a private lot, check the property’s own rules instead.

Employee relocation

Do you move employees who are relocating for work?

Yes. A local household move uses the same crew rates: $139 an hour for two movers and a truck and 50 free boxes. Long-distance moves have one price per city on a dedicated truck, such as $4,000 to Las Vegas and $4,200 to Phoenix.

Tell us who pays when you book. The estimate and the bill can be made out to the company or to the employee.

California moves need a visual inspection before a written estimate (Max 4, Item 108). For moves to another state, federal rules have allowed virtual surveys since 31 Oct 2022, and the physical survey can be waived in writing (49 CFR 375.401).
