Del Mar is one of the county’s smallest cities, and its homes are a mix of beach cottages, hillside houses with stairs and a few condo buildings, many of them full of art, antiques and furniture that needs planning. Because the city is under 5,000 residents, the Census doesn’t publish QuickFacts housing figures for it, so we’ve left the statistics out.

What are the parking, container and HOA rules in Del Mar?
Del Mar puts a clock on containers even on private property: a temporary storage unit can stay up to 15 days in a row, up to four times a year and 60 days a year in total. In the street it needs an Encroachment Permit. Del Mar Heights, on the City of San Diego side, follows the City’s 7-day permit instead.

In Del Mar the time goes into the carry, not the road: stairs on the hillsides, a walk from the only legal parking spot in the Beach Colony. That’s why we price from a walkthrough and put the total in a Not-to-Exceed price.

In 2026 the San Diego County Fair ran June 10 to July 5 and the summer race meet July 17 to September 7; the fall meet runs November 6 to 29. On those days traffic backs up around the Fairgrounds, so we book early starts or work around event days.

What does a long-distance move from Del Mar cost?
Long-distance moves go on a dedicated truck at one price per city: Las Vegas $4,000, Phoenix $4,200, Salt Lake City $6,500, Dallas $10,600. Any other city: call (858) 633-8600 for today’s price. A shared truck costs $11 per cubic foot, 400 cubic feet minimum.

Yes. A One Stop container on your property is $99 a month (Standard, 8×8×5 ft) or $175 (Large, 8×8×7 ft), with 25 free boxes. Delivery, pickup and storage at our facility are quoted separately, in writing. Storage units in San Diego County start at $245 a month.

Containers are steel and weather-sealed, not climate-controlled, rented month to month. Vault storage is kept at 68–72°F.

What protects me on a California move?
California movers are licensed by the Bureau of Household Goods and Services (BHGS), which took over on July 1, 2018. A mover may give a written estimate only after a visual inspection. Basic protection pays 60¢ per pound per article.

Up to 15 days in a row. Del Mar Municipal Code 30.86.180 allows a temporary storage unit up to four times a year, 60 days a year in total. A unit in an enclosed yard screened from the street is exempt.
Can a container go on the street in Del Mar?
Only with a city Encroachment Permit under Chapter 23.28. The FY 2027 fee schedule lists a $516 initial deposit for a short-term permit; confirm the type and fee with the city first.
