The short version: One Stop Moving & Storage rents two portable storage container sizes in San Diego County. The Standard is 8 ft high × 8 ft deep × 5 ft wide (320 cu ft) and fits a 1–2 bedroom apartment, at $99 a month. The Large is 8 × 8 × 7 ft wide (448 cu ft) and fits a 2–3 bedroom home, at $175 a month.

Container dimensions
The two sizes
Both containers are 8 feet tall and 8 feet deep; only the width changes. The Standard is 5 feet wide and holds 320 cubic feet. The Large is 7 feet wide and holds 448 cubic feet, 40% more space for 77% more rent.
Start from the rooms you are emptying, not from cubic feet. A one to two bedroom apartment goes in a Standard. A two to three bedroom home calls for the Large. The Standard is also the smallest moving container we rent, which makes it the usual pick for a few rooms during a remodel or a dorm-to-apartment move.
Everything else is the same. Both are all steel and weather resistant, both load at ground level with no ramp, both come with 25 free moving boxes, and both lock with your own padlock. The monthly rate is the only price that changes with size; delivery and pickup for either are quoted in writing for your address.

One kitchen cabinet fills about one dish pack or one medium box, which is the quickest way to count a kitchen. Bulky furniture, a piano or a full garage can push you up a size, so tell us the big pieces and we recommend a size in writing. The 25 boxes that come with each container cover the first rooms.

Vs a storage unit
How does a container compare with a storage unit?
A Standard holds 320 cubic feet, about the same as a 5×8 storage unit with an 8-foot ceiling. A Large holds 448, a little more than a 5×10. The difference is where it sits: the container comes to your driveway, so you load it once instead of driving loads across town.
Containers are all steel and weather resistant, but not climate-controlled. For furniture, art or papers that need a steady temperature, our climate-controlled vaults are kept at 68 to 72°F. They are full-service storage units, not self storage: our crew loads them, and visits are by appointment with our staff.

Two containers
When you need two
If a Large looks tight, book two. Each container rents at its own monthly rate, so a Large plus a Standard is $274 a month and two Large containers are $350, plus delivery and pickup quoted in writing.
Two containers can also split a job. One fills up and goes sealed to our facility or your next address in San Diego County, while the other stays for the things you still need. A move to a new address and storage at our facility are each quoted separately, in writing.

How much space does a container need at the house?
Room for the container itself, room in front to open the doors, level ground, and about 30 feet of clearance for the delivery truck. Look up as well as along the drive: low branches, eaves and wires matter.
On private property most cities need no permit. A container on the street usually does: in the City of San Diego it takes a Traffic Control Permit under Information Bulletin 718, and some cities limit how many days a container may stay. How much driveway space does a container need?
Room for the container (5 ft wide for a Standard, 7 ft for a Large, 8 ft deep), clear space in front to open the doors, level ground, and about 30 feet of clearance for the delivery truck. Tell us about gates, trees or wires, and we confirm the spot before delivery.
Will a 3-bedroom house fit in one container?
Often, if you book the Large. It holds 448 cubic feet and is sized for a two to three bedroom home. A three-bedroom with large furniture or a full garage may need two containers, so tell us the big pieces and we recommend a size in writing.
Are the containers climate-controlled?
No. Our containers are all steel and weather resistant, but not climate-controlled. For things that need a steady temperature, our facility vaults are kept at 68 to 72°F, from $245 a month for a 5×10 in San Diego County.
