Escondido Movers for the Valley and the Hills

Valley floor to Hidden Meadows

The short version: One Stop Moving & Storage moves Escondido homes and businesses from our Sorrento Valley base, about 22 miles and 30 minutes down I-15. Two movers and a truck cost $139 an hour, billed in 15-minute blocks after a 4-hour minimum, with no stair fees and a written Not-to-Exceed price. Inland heat and hillside drives outside city limits are the two things we plan for most.

Moving in Escondido

Where in Escondido do you move people?

The whole city, from downtown and Old Escondido to Felicita and Rancho San Pasqual, plus the unincorporated hills with Escondido addresses: Hidden Meadows, Del Dios, Elfin Forest and Harmony Grove. Our crews drive about 22 miles up I-15, roughly 30 minutes without traffic. ZIP codes: 92025, 92026, 92027, 92029.

Escondido is close to half renters and half owners, so we move as many apartments as houses: units downtown and along the parkways, older bungalows in Old Escondido, tract homes in the south, and ranch-style lots in the hills just outside the city. Households average 2.91 people, more than the City of San Diego’s 2.52, and bigger households usually mean more to pack.

Escondido neighborhoods

Downtown and Grand AvenueApartments above and behind shops, with street parking. We pick the loading spot before move day.
Old EscondidoThe historic district of early-1900s homes beside downtown. Original wood floors and narrow drives, so floor protection and a short carry plan.
Felicita and Kit CarsonSouth Escondido off Via Rancho Parkway and Felicita Road. Tract homes and condo complexes with assigned parking.
Rancho San PasqualCustom homes on larger lots in the southeast, toward the San Pasqual Valley. Long driveways and gates.
Hidden MeadowsNorth of the city off I-15. Unincorporated County land with long, steep private drives; we check whether the truck can turn around.
Del Dios and Elfin ForestNarrow canyon roads west of the city, outside city limits. Some homes need a second truck or a longer carry from the nearest flat spot.
Business parksOffices and warehouses along Auto Park Way and Enterprise Street. After-hours moves and pallet-jack loading.

Local rules

What are the parking, container and HOA rules in Escondido?

Escondido’s zoning code restricts metal cargo containers in residential zones and doesn’t say whether a portable storage container counts, so check with the City’s Planning Division before you book one. Anything in the street needs an encroachment permit with a traffic control plan. The hills outside city limits follow County rules.

Cargo containers (Article 36)The zoning code makes cargo containers unlawful in the R-1 to R-5 and RT zones unless an exemption applies, and requires a Minor Development Permit where they are allowed. Ask the Planning Division whether it covers a portable storage container at your address. Source
Street placementAnything in the street is right-of-way work and needs a City of Escondido encroachment permit, with a traffic control plan. Source
AccessWherever a container sits, it can’t block access to the right-of-way, exits, required parking or fire lanes (§33-727). Source
Outside city limitsHidden Meadows, Harmony Grove, Del Dios and Elfin Forest have Escondido mailing addresses but are unincorporated, so County of San Diego rules apply, including its encroachment permit for County roads. Source

Drive time, explained

How is drive time billed on an Escondido move?

Your written Not-to-Exceed price lists the drive between your two addresses with every other charge before move day. Downtown Escondido to Hidden Meadows is about 15 minutes. Escondido to Carlsbad is about 27 minutes.

Our crews start in Sorrento Valley, about 22 miles and 30 minutes south. That distance sets your arrival window. It doesn’t change the hourly rate, which is the same everywhere in San Diego County.

Escondido moves often cross the county: to the coast on SR-78, or down I-15 toward Rancho Bernardo and Carmel Mountain Ranch. The table shows the drive times for those routes.

RouteDrive time
Downtown Escondido to Hidden Meadowsabout 15 min
Escondido to Carmel Mountain Ranchabout 18 min
Escondido to Carlsbad Villageabout 27 min

Local know-how

What else should I know before moving in Escondido?

Plan around the heat in summer, the cargo-container rule if you want storage at home, and truck access if your address is in the hills outside the city.

Inland heat

Escondido reached 115°F on September 6, 2020, and summer afternoons run far hotter than the coast. From June through September we book early starts, load heat-sensitive items last and unload them first.

Yes. A One Stop container on your property is $99 a month (Standard, 8×8×5 ft) or $175 (Large, 8×8×7 ft), with 25 free boxes. Delivery, pickup and storage at our facility are quoted separately, in writing. Storage units in San Diego County start at $245 a month.
