Can I get a moving estimate over the phone?
You can get our rates over the phone: $139 an hour for 2 movers and a truck, up to $339 an hour for 6. A written estimate for a California move needs a visual inspection of your things first, usually an in-home walkthrough. For interstate moves, federal rules have allowed video surveys since 31 October 2022.
A walkthrough takes the guesswork out. We see the rooms, the big pieces and the access at your door, then pick the crew size and the truck.
When a final bill differs from an estimate, it’s usually for one of three reasons: items were added after the walkthrough, a different crew size was booked, or a room was missed. Show us the garage, attic, shed and any storage unit, even if you’re not sure they’re moving.

What does California law say about moving estimates?
A California household mover can give a written estimate only after a visual inspection of what’s moving (Max 4 tariff, Item 108). Movers have been licensed by the Bureau of Household Goods and Services (BHGS) since 1 July 2018, not the CPUC. Every One Stop local move gets a written Not-to-Exceed price.

Long distance
How are long-distance moves priced?
Long-distance moves have one price per city, on a dedicated truck for your household only. Las Vegas is $4,000 and Phoenix $4,200. Any other city: call (858) 633-8600 for today’s price. Smaller loads can share a truck at $11 per cubic foot, 400 cubic foot minimum.
Moves to Los Angeles are billed by the hour at crew rates, and the Bay Area is $4,800–$5,200. We also move people into San Diego from other states, on the same rate card. A deposit holds your date.

Before you ask
What do movers need for an accurate quote?
Have six things ready: both addresses or ZIP codes, the home size, the big or unusual items, stairs and elevators at each end, parking, and your dates. Tell us about storage or packing too. That’s enough for a firm, written number after the walkthrough.

Street addresses or at least ZIP codes. Distance sets the drive time and fuel, and decides local or long-distance pricing.

Home size and every room
Bedrooms, plus the garage, attic, patio, shed and any storage unit. Missed rooms are the top reason a move runs long.

Big and special items
Piano, safe, gym equipment, artwork, a big sectional. These can change the crew size.

Stairs, elevators, long walks from the truck, HOA move-in rules or an elevator booking.

Parking
Driveway, street or loading dock. A portable container on a City of San Diego street needs a Traffic Control Permit: $87.68 a week plus $87.68 processing. On a driveway, no permit.

Yes. One Stop Moving & Storage holds California license CAL-190616 and USDOT 1956864 (MC 694565), and carries $1 million in general liability and $1 million in workers’ comp. Our crews are full-time employees, not day laborers. We’ve moved San Diego since 2008, from our only office in Sorrento Valley.

Yes. A live video walkthrough works for interstate moves, which federal rules have allowed since 31 October 2022. For moves within California, we tell you on the first call whether video is enough or we should visit.
Is my local moving estimate a guaranteed price?
Every One Stop local move gets a written Not-to-Exceed price, the most you pay for the job as described. If you add items or services, the change is written up before the work.

Do stairs or elevators cost extra?
Stairs never do: One Stop charges no stair fees on local moves. On a long-distance move, elevator service is $350, and a shuttle truck, used when a big truck can’t reach the door, is $750.
What can make the final bill differ from the estimate?
Mostly three things: items added after the walkthrough, a different crew size than estimated, or rooms that weren’t shown, such as a garage, attic, shed or storage unit.
How far ahead should I ask for an estimate?

Are boxes included in the estimate?
Yes. Every move comes with 50 free moving boxes. Local moves also include blankets, shrink wrap and wardrobe boxes to use on move day. Extra materials are sold by the piece, from $5 for a small box.
Can I get a storage or container price in the same estimate?
Yes. Portable containers are $99 a month (standard) or $175 a month (large) on your property. Storage units in San Diego County run from $245 a month for 5×10 ft to $730 for 10×30 ft.
