Moving in Carmel Valley

Which parts of Carmel Valley do you move?

All of 92130: Carmel Valley proper, Pacific Highlands Ranch, Torrey Hills, Del Mar Mesa and the office corridor along High Bluff Drive and El Camino Real. Our base is about 8 miles away, roughly 12 minutes without traffic, and crews work 7 days a week from 7 AM to 7 PM. ZIP codes: 92130.

Carmel Valley was planned in phases, and it shows on move day. Single-family homes and three-story townhomes sit inside HOAs with set move hours, apartments and condos near One Paseo run through a building manager, and the newest homes are in Pacific Highlands Ranch. Carmel Valley is a community of the City of San Diego, not a separate city, so the Census doesn’t publish city figures for it; we’ve left the statistics out rather than borrow San Diego’s.

What are the street, container and HOA rules in Carmel Valley?

Carmel Valley is part of the City of San Diego, so City rules apply: a container in the street or on the sidewalk needs a 7-day Traffic Control Permit, $87.68 a week plus an $87.68 processing fee. We found no City rule for a container on a private driveway. HOAs and building managers set their own move hours.

Local know-how

What else should I know before moving in Carmel Valley?

Plan around the school calendar, your HOA’s move rules and, for offices, the building’s after-hours window. And make sure you’re on the right Carmel: Carmel Mountain Ranch and Monterey County’s Carmel Valley are different places.

Moving around the school year

Carmel Valley families tend to move in June, July and August so children start the year in the new house. That’s also our busy season, May through September, so book about 3 weeks ahead for a summer date and about 10 days ahead the rest of the year.

Offices and labs near High Bluff Drive

Office and life-science moves run after hours, with the building’s certificate of insurance sent ahead and lab equipment planned separately.

Lab moves

Not Carmel Mountain Ranch

Carmel Mountain Ranch (92128) is a different community off I-15, about 18 minutes inland. If that’s where you live, our Carmel Mountain Ranch page covers its rules and routes.

Three-story townhomes

Stairs cost nothing extra. A three-story townhome takes longer to load than a flat, so we size the crew to the stairs and the time shows up in your Not-to-Exceed price.
