Moving in San Marcos

Where in San Marcos do you move people?

All of San Marcos, from San Elijo Hills and Old Creek Ranch in the south to Twin Oaks Valley, Richland and the Cal State San Marcos area. Our base is about 26 miles away, roughly 35 minutes without traffic, and crews work 7 days a week, 7 AM to 7 PM. ZIP codes: 92069, 92078, 92079, 92096.

San Marcos is its own city, with its own permits and codes, not part of the City of San Diego. The Census Bureau counts 94,908 residents (July 2025) in about 31,350 households, with 63.7% of homes owner-occupied. The typical household is larger than San Diego’s, so many moves here are full family homes.

Local rules

What are the parking, container and HOA rules in San Marcos?

San Marcos code has no permit rule for a temporary moving container on your own driveway. A container in the street, parking lane or sidewalk needs a city encroachment permit under Chapter 14.21. In San Elijo Hills and other master-planned areas, HOA rules usually decide the rest.

Street and sidewalkAnything placed in the public right-of-way, including a container, needs a City of San Marcos encroachment permit, with proof of insurance and a fee set by the city (Chapter 14.21). Source
DrivewaysWe found no San Marcos rule or permit for a temporary moving container on private property. The code bars freight containers as permanent accessory structures (§20.410.040), which covers sheds, not a short rental. Source
HOAsSan Elijo Hills and other master-planned neighborhoods have HOAs that set move hours and container limits. Check your CC&Rs before you book.
