What it costs
How much does an estate move cost in San Diego?
Local estate moves are hourly: $139 for two movers and a truck, $189 for three, plus $50 an hour for each extra mover, with 15-minute billing after that. A 3-bedroom home usually takes 3 movers 4 to 9 hours, $756 to $1,951 in labor. Packing runs at the same crew rates.
A walkthrough, in person or by video, turns the house and the plan into a crew size, hours and a written Not-to-Exceed price. Multi-stop delivery is part of the same day and the same clock; drive time between stops is on the same hourly bill.
There are no stair fees. A deposit holds your date.

How it works
How does an estate move work, step by step?
3 steps, all billed on one hourly clock from $139 an hour. A walkthrough sets the scope, access, timeline and one decision-maker; packing labels everything by room or heir; then one route delivers to a home, several family members or storage, with furniture placed by room at each stop.
1
Walkthrough and plan
We review scope, access, timeline and any written instructions from the trustee or executor, and agree on one decision-maker for move day.
2
Packing and labeling
Room-based or heir-based labels, protective wrapping and grouped staging so the right things reach the right place.
3
Delivery, placement and storage
One route to a home, several family members or storage, with furniture and boxes placed by room at each stop.
Downsizing and senior moves
How do you move a parent into assisted living?
Start with the new room’s floor plan, choose the bed, chair and dresser that fit, and set up familiar pieces first so the first night feels like home. Medications, papers and jewelry travel with family. The rest of the house goes to family, storage or donation on 1 route.
Communities give a floor plan on request. Choosing what fits before move day avoids a second move the same week.
Board-and-care and memory-care homes have smaller rooms and stricter move-in hours. We confirm the window with the home, pad the hallways and move quietly around residents. Many communities also ask for a certificate of insurance; we send it ahead.
What we have learned

Antiques and heirlooms
How are antiques, art and heirlooms protected?
Layered protection: moving blankets, shrink wrap and padding at no charge, picture boxes for framed art and mirrors at $14 each, and vertical loading for art. Basic valuation in California pays $0.60 per pound per article, so a 150-lb antique dresser is covered for $90. Insure valuable pieces separately.
If a piece is worth more than its weight times 60 cents, buy separate coverage before move day and tell us, so we plan the wrapping and crew around it.

Materials for fragile pieces
Materials from One Stop’s published tariff. Basic valuation: California Max 4 tariff, Item 136 (BHGS). More: moving insurance and valuation.
Timeline not settled?
Where can estate furniture be stored during probate?
In a climate- and humidity-controlled vault at 68–72°F or a storage unit, from $245 a month for 5 × 10 ft in San Diego County. Loading into storage is $750 per truck and each access visit is $75. Prefer to sort at the house? A portable container in the driveway is $99 a month.
Units bill monthly, not prorated. When the estate settles, we deliver to heirs, a new home or a sale, by room or by name.

Containers include 25 free boxes and are month to month; delivery and pickup are quoted in writing. They are steel and weather-resistant, not climate-controlled.
Before move day
What should an executor settle before an estate move?
Four things: who approves decisions and where everything goes; which valuables and documents need special handling; how boxes are labeled; and the access rules at every address. Share the answers when you ask for a quote, and the plan, crew and 1 route are built around them.
01
Define the plan
Choose who approves decisions on site. Confirm destinations: a new home, several heirs, storage or sale prep. Make the keep / donate / sell / trash / store list and set the access timeline.
02
Valuables and documents
Set aside jewelry, cash, small collectibles and heirlooms. Gather wills, deeds, titles and tax records into one box. Photograph high-value items and mark ‘do not move’ rooms.
03
Label for sorting
Pick one method: by room, by heir or by category. Use colored tape per destination, keep an ‘open first’ box and write destination notes on large furniture.
04
Access and rules
Reserve elevators or docks at condos and senior communities, confirm truck parking, tell realtors or managers the date, and tell us about narrow stairs or gates.
Questions
Estate moving questions
Short answers. Prices, booking, packing, storage and your rights are covered in full in our FAQ.
All moving questionsWhat is an estate move?
A move that relocates or clears a home because of a life change: downsizing, a move into assisted living, an inheritance, a trust or probate directive, or getting a property ready to sell. It needs more sorting, labeling and careful handling than a standard move.
How much does an estate move cost?
Local estate moves are $139 an hour for two movers and a truck plus $50 an hour per extra mover. A 3-bedroom home usually runs $756 to $1,951 in labor. Packing is billed at the same crew rates.
Can you work with an executor or trustee?
Yes. We coordinate with the executor, trustee or attorney, follow written access and distribution instructions, keep an inventory and deliver to heirs, storage or donation as the plan says.
Can you deliver items to several family members?
Yes. A multi-stop route takes designated pieces to specific relatives, a new home, storage or donation on one day and one clock. Labeling by heir before move day is what makes it work.
Do you help with moves into assisted living or board-and-care homes?
Yes. We work from the new room’s floor plan, move only what fits and matters, set it up so it feels familiar the first night, and route the rest of the household to family, storage or donation.
How do you protect antiques, art and heirlooms?
Blankets, shrink wrap and padding at no charge, picture boxes for art and mirrors at $14 each, and vertical loading for art. Basic valuation pays $0.60 per pound per article, so insure high-value pieces separately.
Can you store furniture while the estate is in probate?
Yes. Vaults are climate- and humidity-controlled at 68–72°F, and San Diego County storage units run $245 to $730 a month, plus $750 per truck to load in and $75 per access visit.
Do you take apart and reassemble furniture?
Yes. Disassembly and reassembly are offered on every move and billed on the clock at the crew hourly rate, so they show on your written estimate.
Do you take things to donation?
We can add donation drop-offs to the delivery route if you arrange them with the charity first. They run on the same hourly clock as the rest of the move.
Can the walkthrough be done by video for out-of-town family?
Yes. We offer in-home or virtual walkthroughs, which helps when the executor or family lives outside San Diego. Your written estimate comes from what we see.
Who does the work?
Full-time One Stop employees, no day laborers. One Stop carries $1M general liability and $1M workers’ comp, holds California license CAL-190616 and has moved San Diego since 2008.
