Empty the rooms before the crew arrives, keep the furniture locked in a steel container on your driveway, and send it to our facility if the contractor needs the space. Rentals run month to month for as long as the work does.
A remodel crew works faster in an empty room, and your furniture is safer out of the dust and away from ladders. A container parked outside does both jobs without a single trip across town to a storage unit.
Kitchen. Pack the dishes, small appliances and pantry goods you will not use for a few weeks, and keep a short list of what went into which box. The table and chairs go in last, nearest the doors, so you can pull them back out if the project stalls.
New flooring. Floors mean every room on that level has to be empty at once. Load the heaviest pieces first against the back wall: sofas, dressers, bed frames, then rugs rolled and standing. Lamps, art and boxes fill the gaps on top.
Whole-house paint. Painters need walls clear and furniture out of the middle of the room. Move a floor or a wing at a time into the container, then swap pieces back as rooms dry, so the house stays livable.
When the container stays on your property, your things stay within reach for the whole project. Need the good pan, a winter coat or the tax folder halfway through? Open the doors and take it. The container is steel, weather sealed and ventilated, and locks with your own padlock. It is not climate controlled, so anything sensitive to heat or humidity is better off in our climate-controlled vaulted storage; ask about it when you reserve.
Size it to the rooms you are clearing. The Standard is 5×8×8 ft, with 320 cubic feet, and the Large is 7×8×8 ft, with 448. If you would rather not lift the sofa yourself, our crew loads it at $139/hr for two movers, 3-hour minimum.
Reserve online or call (858) 633-8600 once the contractor gives you a start date, and schedule delivery a few days ahead of it. Tell us where the container should sit and whether the crew needs to park or stage materials in the driveway.
Empty the rooms in the order the work will reach them. Label boxes by room, keep the things you may need mid-project near the doors, and lock up with your own padlock each night.
If the driveway is free, the container stays until the last room is finished. If the contractor needs the space, we collect it sealed with 24 hours' notice, keep it at our facility and bring it back for unloading. Taking it away and bringing it back is one $150 round trip, and the container keeps its monthly rate while it is with us.
Longer than a move, usually. Most moving customers keep a container for one to three months, and remodel customers often keep one for four to six. Rentals are month to month with no minimum and no exit fee, so a project that runs over simply costs another month rather than a new contract.
Plan the timeline against your city before you book. Chula Vista limits a portable storage container in a residential zone to an existing driveway, one per lot, for no more than 30 consecutive days and 90 days in a calendar year, under CVMC 19.58.445. A four-month kitchen remodel there does not fit on the driveway alone, so decide from the start when the container moves to our facility, and confirm the limits with the city.
Other cities have their own rules, and an HOA can add limits of its own. Our driveway permits guide lists what each city we checked says, with sources. If the house has no room for a container at all, our climate-controlled vaulted storage holds your belongings for $225 a month.

Yes, if the crew does not need that space and your city allows it. In most cities we checked, we found no city rule requiring a permit on a private driveway, but Chula Vista sets time limits, Escondido restricts cargo containers, and HOAs can add rules. Ask your contractor where their trucks and materials will go first.
Keep it on-site when you want to reach things mid-project and the driveway can spare the room. Choose our facility when the contractor needs the driveway, the project outlasts a city limit, or some pieces need climate-controlled vaulted storage. Moving a container to our facility and back is one $150 round trip, plus its monthly rate.
A Standard 1-Box costs $99 a month and a Large $175, so a four-month remodel is four monthly payments plus one $150 delivery and pickup charge. There is no deposit. Loading help is $139/hr for two movers with a 3-hour minimum, and a facility move is one $150 round trip.
